At AUT, the school is known to have developed new courses and advanced qualifications that realize the revolution in sport, health and fitness. Over the years the school has added innovative programmes in health, fitness, sport, outdoor recreation, dance and holistic therapies.
The Division of Sport and Recreation works in close relation with key industry providers, ensures that the students are exposed to and experience of sport, recreation and health science inside and outside the classroom.

To provide practical training to the students the school has The Golf Swing Clinic, The Sport and Fitness Centre. AUT has developed a sports scholarship programme. The purpose of the sports scholarship programme is to support athletes to fulfill their sporting goals without compromising their educational aspiration. AUT Sports Excellence Scholarships are offered to athletes and coaches from AUT's designated sports partners
