Urban Institute Ireland founded four years back is a centre for the development of new technologies, policies and ideas designed to improve the quality of the working and living environment.
The institute is already established as an important centre internationally for research on Urban and Development issues.
Research areas
- Energy & Indoor Environment
A key objective in the EIE cluster is to create a major international program through research and postgraduate education (Masters and PhD) in the areas of building energy and indoor environment.
- Transport & Infrastructure
Transport Infrastructure includes bridges, roads, rail, concrete technology, embankment stability and often technologies that facilitate an efficient and sustainable transport system.
- Urban Environment
To advance knowledge and understanding of issues in the Urban Environment encompassing:
- Quality of life & Health
- Ecology and Biodiversity
- Land Use and its implications
- Flooding and flood risk mitigation
Urban services including water and waste management.
- Environment & Rural Policy
Research will include addressing and analyzing the global, EU, national and local (urban and rural) challenges in implementing sustainable development and improving quality of life via environmental policy in the areas of climate change, biodiversity, planning, housing, energy use, transport and economics (market based instruments, greening accounts).
The students visiting the Urban Institute Ireland have the provision of availing the scholarships and accommodation facility of UCD.
