The University College Dublin traces its origin back to the Catholic University of Ireland which was instituted in the mid-nineteenth century. Later, under the Royal Universities Act it was renamed as the University College Dublin. The main campus of the University is located at Belfield and is very attractive.
The University has four specific colleges under it which are again composed of several schools.
The Colleges are:
- College of Arts and Celtic studies
- College of Business and Law
- College of Engineering, Mathematical and Physical Science
- College of Human Sciences
- College of Life Sciences.
The undergraduate programmes cover subject areas like:
- Arts sand Humanities
- Business and Law
- Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences
- Science
- Engineering and Architecture
- Agri-Food, Veterinary, Medicine and Environmental Science.
Besides, a wide range of graduate programmes has been designed by the Graduate Schools under the supervision of the Dean of Doctoral Studies and Postdoctoral Training.
Research Centers
In order to support the researchers in a wide array of disciplines and to encourage cooperative research, the University has set up a number of research centers like the UCD Conway Institute of Biomedical Research and UCD Urban Institute of Ireland.
Scholarships
The University offers a wide range of scholarships to the students based on different criteria like Entrance Scholarships, 150 University Scholarships, and Sports Scholarships, Bord na Gaelige Scholarships, UCD Choral Scholarships and the UCD Sinfonia. These Scholarships are given to further encourage the students to carry on with their hard work.
Library
There is a UCD Library with extensive collection of data and information. There is also UCD Archives whose primary function is to preserve the archives of the University and of the other vital institutions which preceded it.
Accommodation
The Belfield and Blackrock campus has rooms for more than 2000 students with ideal living conditions. There is wireless local area network access, laundry facility. There are also restaurants, cafes and shops for the convenience of the students.
