The National College of Art and Design occupies a unique position in art and design education in Ireland and it offers art and design degrees in the state at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The College started in 1746 when Robert West started a private drawing school in George's Lane in Dublin which was later taken over by Dublin Society. The College's campus is on Thomas Street in the historic liberties area of Dublin. In 1998 the College opened its new wing, The School of Design for Industry. The College has four faculties like Design, Education, Fine Arts and Visual Culture. With the exception of Industrial Design and Faculty of Education First Year (Core) provides first year of all undergraduate courses.
The College is a recognized College of National University of Ireland since 1996.

Library: The National Irish Visual Arts Library (NIVAL) houses 70,000 books and exhibition catalogues and subscribes to almost 300 serials.
Language Centre: This centre is specially to build upon the language skills they had acquired at schools.
Visual Resource Centre: It holds a collection of digital resources, slides, videos, CD-ROMs and links resources to the web.
Accommodation: The campus does not have any residences and the students must find their own accommodations. The NCAD Student's Union may be able to help the students.
The campus comprises of Career Advisory Service, Exchange Programs and Visiting Student's Exhibition centre.
