The Geary Institute was established at UCD in 1999 [former name: The Institute for the Study of Social Change (ISSC)] with a mission to lead a centre for quantitative and analytical research.
Researchers at the Institute are drawn mainly from UCD faculty from a range of disciplines including
- Economics
- Politics
- Sociology
- Social policy
The research agenda at Geary is aligned around two major research clusters:
- Behaviour, Risk and Welfare
- Centre for Human Development and Public Policy
- Centre for Behaviour and Health
- Values and Institutions
Scholarship and Financial Aids
- Local Authority (Higher Education) Grants
- Newman Scholars (endowed fellowships)
- Combat Poverty Agency Fellowships (Support for students undertaking Graduate research on poverty)
- National Rehabilitation Board Scholarships
- Royal Irish Academy awards (sixty research grants each year in both the humanities and the natural science)
