The mission of the faculty of Science of DIT is to provide opportunities and facilities for aspiring scientists of all ages to pursue careers in science and cognate disciplines. It aims to achieve this by developing the teaching, research, consultancy, and scholarly role and also by continuing to contribute to the technological, social and economic well-being of society in Ireland and Europe.
The Faculty of Science comprises 5 Schools:
- School of Biological Sciences (offering under-graduate & post-graduate degree, diploma)
- School of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences (offering diploma, degree, postgraduate and short training courses in all areas of Chemistry, most are available on a full or part-time basis)
- School of Computing (offering full-time and part-time undergraduate and post graduate courses)
- School of Mathematical Sciences (offering full-time or part-time single Honors degree, ordinary degree, Master's degree on full-time or part-time basis)
- School of Physics (offering under-graduate ordinary & Honors degree, Maser's and Doctorate degree)
There is Department of Optometry at DIT which forms part of the School of Physics in the Faculty of Science. The Department of Optometry offers the Republic of Ireland's only optometry degree program
There are seven libraries within the Institute. DIT Library currently stocks more than 250,000 books and other items and subscribes to nearly 20,000 journal titles.
The university provides the students with awards, scholarships and grants to help them carry on their studies or research work and also as a mark of recognition.
The Student Accommodation Service is an information service provided by the Student Sports, Recreation and Support Dept. in co-operation with the Students' Union. The DIT International Student Office at DIT can provide advice for International Students on accommodation issues as well.
