A wide range of subjects is offered with opportunities both for continuing work in subjects studied at school and for embarking on new areas of study. These are largely the subjects known as Humanities, together with a number of related social science subjects.
The advantage of the Arts degree is that it allows one to develop skills of communication, problem solving, team work, leadership, and flexibility, all of which are valued in the work-force, are adaptable in a rapidly changing environment and are not dependent on any one sector of the job market.
The Faculty of Arts contain among them those subjects which have been at the heart of Irish and European learning for many centurie:
- Mathematics
- Classics
- Philosophy
The comparatively newer disciplines which have been included in the curriculum are:
- Modern Literature
- Sociology
- Psychology
- Anthropology
- Computer Science
- Economics
The Faculty grants BA Single/Joint Honors/International degree to the students as per the requirements.
The University gives grants (for higher studies) and scholarships like:
- Entrance Scholarships of € 1,000 are available for students admitted with 500 points or more.
The university has an online library available to the students to carry on their research work in their respective fields. The Russell library is now the research library which houses the early-printed books (pre-1851), manuscripts and archives.
The Residence Office compiles lists of on-campus as well as off campus accommodation with rooms available in traditional “digs” accommodation, self-catering in family homes and in private rented apartments and houses. NUI Maynooth currently houses nearly 900 students on campus.
