Burren College of Arts was founded in 1993 by Michael Greene and Mary Hawks-Greene with the objective of providing primary education to the budding determined artistes. It is a charitable educational organization.
The College is a member of the following association of higher educational bodies:

- European League of institutes of Arts
- International Council of Fine Arts Deans
- National association for Study Abroad
- National Association of School of Arts and Design.
Programmes
The college offers the programme of Master of Fine Arts (MFA) which is unique in itself. For the Students who are not yet ready to take up MFA, the college offers Post Baccalaureate Certificate. In addition to this, Individual Study Abroad Programms are offered to the Bachelor Students who want to study abroad for one or two semesters during their junior year. There are also provision for Group Study Abroad - One Month Group Study Abroad and Semester Group Study Abroad. Finally there are also Five-Day courses like Botanical Painting, Watercolour Painting, Abstract Painting and many others.
Library
The college has prosperous and enlightening library with a collection of more than 6,000 books, art related videos and periodicals and slides. The Irish Section of the Library consists of Irish History, Archaeology and Literature. Students and staffs of the college have open access to the Library.
Accommodation
Undergraduate students live in recently built houses which are equipped with modern facilities. MFA students cad make request to stay in College Housing but then they prefer to live in rented cottages in the village.
Other facilities
The College campus also has a Gallery which is basically ‘a laboratory learning space for the students'. There are Studios, Photography Suite, Lecture Theatres, and Sculpture workshops, seminar and tutorial rooms and study rooms in the college. For the convenience of the students, the college has come up with a cafeteria and arts supplies shop.
