225 year-old University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover or TiHo is one of the oldest in the continent founded by King George III.
Transforming into a public entity in 1st January 2003, TiHo consists of
- 5 clinics,
- 13 institutes,
- 2 centres,
- 2 special units, and
- 2 affiliated independent organizations.
Divided into 2 external campuses in Hannover city, TiHo continues research and student training in:
- Modern animal production at Farm for Research and Training at Ruthe site (south Hannover); and
- Herd diagnostics and health at Field Station for Epidemiology at Bakum site (near Vechta).
Around 2000 students register each semester to seek education in contemporary issues in animal health, animal welfare, consumer protection, food sciences, and the biomedical sciences. TiHo also confers on-job trainings and apprentices in various national and international organizations. Some of the research areas include gastroenterology, infection medicine, neurosciences, food sciences and clinical research of individual animals. International partnerships and affiliations have also brought name to the institute.
