The Ruhr University of Bochum (RUB) established in 1965 is the first new university for higher education of post-war Germany. It is located in the Ruhr district, the country's largest urban area. The Ruhr University has a single campus with twenty separate departments or faculties. It has become one of the largest research-based universities of Germany.

The University offers an entire range of faculties of Natural and Social Sciences, Medicine, Engineering and Humanities. The courses provided are:

Libraries
The Ruhr University of Bochum has two set of Library systems; The University Central Library and over 50 Departmental Libraries. The libraries contain bibliographies, reference works, basic research literature, academic textbooks and periodicals in form of books, journal, electronic journals, CDs etc. Each department has their own departmental library to support any detailed information on any particular subject area.
Accommodation
The University has 32 student hostels. The rooms are fully equipped available in different sizes. There are few rooms specially designed for the disable students.
