Founded in 1831 by a scholar, the “Higher Trade School of Hannover” as it was known then had just 64 students. With more than 23,000 students spread across the various departments, the university now is one of the best in the country. One of the goals of the University is constant improvement of the quality of teaching as well as research. The University earlier known as the University of Hannover, has been renamed to Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover from July 2006.
Faculties
The university has nine different faculties catering to the needs of a vast range of students. There are more than 150 first-degree full-time and part-time degree courses. The courses are ably taught by about 350 professors and about 1,300 academic employees. The University greatly inspires continuing education. There are more than 3000 people are being educated through various continuing education programs.
