The Friedrich Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg was founded in the year 1773. This German university had four faculties during its inception namely, protestant theology, jurisprudence, medicine and philosophy. The name Friedrich Alexander University was given in honour of Alexander, Margrave of Ansbach and Bayreuth.
