The Free Universität Berlin is one of the leading universities in the world is renowned for its international character. It is also one of the largest universities in Germany, offering degree courses in more than a hundred subjects for 35 500 students – of which 15% are international students. Established in 1945, the University has maintained cordial connection with the other Universities outside Germany and has been an integral part of the international scientific community. Exchange programs for students and scientists were organized frequently to give a true international color to the University. Early contacts with American universities were soon complemented by a growing network of cooperative ventures worldwide, including China and the then Soviet Union.

The University campus boasts of libraries for different departments and subjects. The Libraries have the following resources:

Accommodation:
Students are given a range of options from which they can select their respective residences. The accommodation system can be divided into two systems and they are summer accommodation and winter accommodation. The residences are divided into single occupancy apartments, homestays, student dormitories and studios. The homestays are available with the local German families, so that the international students can get a taste of the rich local culture. Some of the apartments that are meant for student residences are Berlin Lichterfelde, Mariendorf, Celsinsstrastreet, and Kruckenbergstreet.
Scholarship and Grants:
The University is reputed to spend more than 55 million Euros for research projects. Scientific awards are given to the students depending on their merit and research projects. Some of the scientific awards are Leibniz Award and Max-Planck Forshungpreis Awards.
