The Dresden University of Technology founded in 1828 ranks among the oldest technical-academic educational establishments in Germany. The TU Dresden is the largest university of Saxony today with about 35,000 students.
Disciplines:
TU Dresden, having been committed to sciences and the engineering before the reunification of Germany is now a multi-discipline university offering:

Research Institutes:
Intensive cooperation with TU Dresden is arranged on the basis of contractual agreements. Joint activities with extramural research institutions and universities are aimed at creating and strengthening productive interactions between science and commercial enterprises, generating synergetic effects as well as accelerating the transfer of research results through the 7 institutes:
- Dendro Institute Tharandt at the Dresden University of Technology (DIT)
- European Institute for Postgraduate Education at the Dresden University of Technology (EIPOS)
- European Transport Institute at the Dresden University of Technology (EVI)
- Hannah Arendt Institute for Totalitarianism Research at the Dresden University of Technology (HAIT)
- Structure and Materials Mechanics Research Institute at the Dresden University of Technology(SWM)
- Training and Advice Centre for Monument Preservation
- Media Culture Centre (MKZ)
Library:
The Saxon State Library - Library of the State and the University (SLUB) is the result of bringing together the former State Library (founded in 1556) and the former University Library of the Dresden University of Technology and with more than 7 million stock units. It belongs to one of the greatest scientific libraries of Germany.
Hostel:
There are 35 student hostels in Dresden and Tharandt with all the modern facilities and student clubs. The students can select among small apartments for individualists, large for student families and numerous single and double rooms in housing groups. Handicap students are given special living solutions.
Scholarships:
Funding or scholarships for students in the Master's Course is not provided as a rule. The DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) offers a limited number of scholarships to foreign graduate students interested in studying in Germany. A limited number of scholarships are available for nationals from central and eastern European countries (including all countries from NIS/CIS) who are admitted into the Master's Course. The “Go West-Scholar ships” are made available through two private foundations.
