The only Catholic University within the German speaking area is the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt.The university was founded long back in 1564 by Bishop Martin von Schaumburg. A fusion of the Eichataett's School of Education and the School of Philosophy and Theology in 1980 gave birth to the present university. The Catholic University in Eichstätt-Ingolstadt has two locations: Eichstätt and Ingolstadt.

A central institution of the Catholic University of Eichstaett-Ingolstadt is its library. The library not only caters to the wide requirements of the students of the university but it is also open to all citizens as well as to professionals from various fields of work. The library houses lakhs of books for its users. Electronic databases and e-journals are also accessible to the students of the university.
A classic student's dormitory is available for on-campus accommodation. There are various other accommodation facilities available to the students who prefer to live off-campus. There are small rented houses, shared-apartments for the students at reasonable rates.
Scholarships are awarded by the university to the students who excel brilliantly in academics. Financial constraint plays no role in obtaining scholarships.
