Established in 1969, the Université Robert Schuman and Strasbourg's two other universities are the successors of the Protestant gymnasium founded by Jean Sturm in 1538. In 1987, the university's council voted unanimously to name the university for “the father of Europe,” Robert Schuman, who studied law at the university from 1906 to 1910.
The university consists of ten units that occupy nine sites:
- Faculty of Law, political science, and management;
- Institut des Hautes Etudes Européennes (IHEE);
- Institut Européen d'Etudes Commerciales Supérieures (IECS Strasbourg);
- The 7 Internal Institutes:
- A university center for education in journalism (CUEJ)
- A school of business Administration (IAE)
- A labor institute
- A center for international studies of patents and trademarks (CEIPI)
- The Robert Schuman university institute of technology (IUT)
- An Institute for Preparation of Law, Politics, Management, Social Sciences, Technology.
