Universite de Bourgogne was founded in 1722 and has its main campus in Dijon. Other campuses of the University are located in Auxerre, Chalon-sur-Saone, Le Creusot, Macon and Nevers.
The University is made up of 11 teaching and research faculties, three engineering schools, one institute of Viticulture and three University Institutes of Technology.

- Sciences, Technologies and health
- Social Sciences
- Pharmacy
In all these fields, the University offers doctorate degree to the students.

- Life and earth sciences
The University has 49 research teams of which 27 are affiliated with Centre National de Recherché Scientifique, Institut National de la Recherché agromonique and Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherché Medicale.
The University also has an International French language Center which enrolls thousand of students every year.
Accommodation
There are three Hall of residence in the University meant for the accommodation of the students. These are managed by the Regional Student Service center. These residences can accommodate nearly 6,000 students.
