University Caen, as the name suggests, is situated in Caen, France. It was founded in the year 1432 by Henry IV of England. However the University was destroyed entirely by aerial bombing. Reconstruction of the University began in 1948 and the new University was inaugurated in 1957.
The University consists of eleven departments and eight institutes. The University also has one Engineering school, one Regional Center of Coastal Studies and one Research Center for Human Sciences.
Five major areas of research are:
- Fundamental and applied Biology
- Medical biology and Epidemiology
- Humanities and Social Sciences including Economics, Management and Law
- Molecular Chemistry, Neurosciences and Medicine
- Mathematics, Data processing, Imaging, IT and Communication.
University Caen is the center for Baccalaureate exams which are administered in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Houston, New York and Washington.
