The University Bretagne- Sud (University of Brittany –South) was founded in February, 1995 and has acquired an important place in the sphere of Economic and Cultural Education. It has campuses at Valve, Lorient and Pontivy.
The University provides training programmes in three specific areas:-
1. Right, Economy, Management
2. Letters, Languages, Social sciences
3. Sciences, Technologies, Health.
There are three main Faculties in the University:
1) Faculty of Right Faculty, Economic Science and Management which consists of two departments-department of Right and department of Economy and Management.
2) Faculty of Letters and Social Sciences
3) Faculty of Science and Engineering.
The University has a School of Engineering based in the middle of Southern Brittany, and is technically supported by the University. It was started in partnership with the industrialist of South Brittany.
There are two University Institute of Technology. One is in Valve and the other one is in Lorient. The University Institute of Technology of Lorient consists of five departments.
They are:
a) Chemical Engineering
b) Industrial Engineering and maintenance
c) Thermal Genius and Energy
d) Hygiene Safety and Environment
e) Quality, Industrial Logistics and Organization.
University Institute of Technology, Valve consists of four departments:
a) GEA: Administration and Business Management
b) STID: Data Processing, Data Statistics and Processing
c) Information: Data Processing
d) Co Tech: Techniques of marketing.
The University's Doctoral school offers degree on a wide variety of subjects like Agronomy, Biology, Chemistry, and Civil Engineering.
Research activities in this University are categorized under three specific ‘Poles'. They are Pole Technology – Matter – Alive, MathSTIC Pole, and Pole Social Sciences.
Financial assistance
The university provides financial assistance to the students who find it difficult to pursue higher studies.For example, Stock Exchange for Higher Education on Social Criteria is granted to the students in accordance with the financial status of their family. Other studying allowances are also provided which are designed to help students during any unforeseen exigencies.
Accommodation
Valve and Lorient campuses are equipped with residence hall meant for the accommodation of the students.
