University Bordeaux IV is a successor organization of the former Law and Economics Faculty which was founded in the 15th century. However it was on 9th May, 1995 that the University was formally set up following a Government declaration. It is spread over a considerable portion of the Aquitaine region in the South-West France, covering 235 hectares of wooden ground. The University has campuses in Bordeaux, Perigueux, and Agen. University Bordeaux IV has student strength of 13,000. There are 400 researchers and instructors and 300 non-teaching staffs to attend the students.

University Bordeaux IV offers programmes in areas like:

There are two University Institutes of Technology in the University. One is h in Bordeaux and the other is in Perigueux. Seven degree courses are offered by University institute of Technology.
University Bordeaux also consists of an Institute of Political Studies and two Regional University Colleges in Agen and Perigueux.
Research Activities
The university puts special emphasis upon research related activities as it has, ever since its inception showcased immense potentiality in this arena. It has 35 research centers which are recognized by the ministry; many are even associated with the larger Research Organizations like the CNRS (National Center for scientific Research) and National Foundation of Political Science. There are three schools for PhD students offering 50 PhD awards every year.
Facilities
The University Halls of Residence are managed by the Bordeaux CROUS and are meant for accommodating the students. The University buildings houses libraries and computer labs. There are also restaurants and cafes for the convenience of the students. Each department has a Students Union which organizes various social and cultural events.
