The university occupies four sites in metropolitan Bordeaux, including a downtown campus, the university hospital, the suburban Campus de Talence-Pessac, and the Dax campus.
The Université Victor Segalen Bordeaux 2, a public university comprises 10 teaching and research faculties, a school of engineering, and three institutes. A comprehensive university, it is one of five universities in the Aquitaine regional system. UVS offers degree programs in the humanities, social sciences, life sciences, and health.

The University offers Terminal (vocational) degrees: DEUST, Licence professionnelle, MST, IUP, Diplôme National d'oenologue (oenologist), Diplôme de Psychologue scolaire (school psychologist).
Test preparation: Preparation for the following national examinations:
CAPES, Sciences Economiques et Sociales, CAPEPS, Agrégation ETAPS – CTAPS, Education Physique et Sportive.
The university manages 64 research laboratories accredited by the French government, of which 33 are also affiliated with one of France's major research bodies (INSERM, CNRS, INRA, IRD.
