The University of the Mediterranean founded in 1970 gathers 12 components (Faculties, Institutes and Schools) distributed on 2 major sites Marseilles and Aix-en-Provence and 2 secondary sites: Gap and Ciotat with more than 23,000 students and 2700 personel.
The university is multi-field in nature and offers formations, general and professionalized courses in the sectors of Health, Sciences, Company and the Social sciences and Sciences and Techniques:

Research constitutes one of the strong points of the University of the Mediterranean which counts a hundred laboratories which have contracts with some organizations. There are 11 Federative Institutes of Research and 2 Federations of Research.
There is a good collection of study materials in the library for the benefit of the students.
There is on-campus accommodation available to the students which depend on the availability of rooms and also on financial condition of the students.
