The IUP civil engineering institute is located in the city of Bordeaux. It is reachable by train, plane or bus. The IUP genie civil, genie des soles et des ouvrages has a multidisciplinary laboratory in applied research and a natural environment of civil engineering structures which skills in:
- Civil engineering (structures and materials),

In the fields of environment, geotechnics and natural hazards it specializes in
- Space variability of soils, coupling of prospecting technics
- Detection and diagnosis of cavities and heterogeneities
- Urban works and geophysical prospecting: tunnels, soils improvement
- Natural hazards: slope stability and earth movements
In the fields of materials and civil engineering it teaches
- Design and behavior of heterogeneous materials
- Texture and structure of geological objects and of geomaterials
- Compaction of heterogeneous materials
