Founded in 1877, in order to materialize a bill on the emancipation of higher education, L'Universite Catholique de Lyon was set up under the auspices of the then bishops of Lyon. Being a University of the Church, it stresses on the inculcation of values among its students, but never compromises with its secular outlook. It incorporates many thoughts of the Gospel in its day-to-day functioning.
Courses Offered
L'Universite Catholique de Lyon offers a multitude of internationally acclaimed Programs under the following Faculties:
- Faculty of Theology
- Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences
- Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences
- Faculty of Letters and Languages
- Faculty of Sciences
Finances
Loans and Allowances: Students may receive ‘loans on trust' and educational allowances provided they can prove circumstances of genuine financial adversity.
Library
The Library is as old as the University itself. It houses ancient and modern books, periodicals and articles on all the subjects taught at the University. Some of the documents preserved in the Library are antique works dating back to the 13th century, AD. The Library provides all modern amenities such as printing, photocopying and access to online resources to all its students. But the reason why it is considered to be a treasure-house of knowledge is due to its priceless collection of manuscripts belonging to the medieval ages.
Facilities
The University endorses the mandatory enrollment of students below the age of 28 into its Scheme of Social Security. The ultimate beneficiaries of this Scheme are obviously the students themselves.
Accommodation
Students may reside in the University's Houses of Residence at St. Bernard and St Laurent.
The University also helps students seek accommodation in shared apartments or in residences of families. The minimum cost of living in a shared apartment or with a family is approximately €320 per month with costs gradually escalating in apartments providing posh facilities.
