Cradled on the waves of the Gulf of St. Lawrence Prince Edward Island is Canada's smallest and greenest province and its capital is Charlottetown.
The major cities are Charlottetown and Summerside.
The province mainly depends on the land and the sea as the basis for its 3 primary industries like the farming, tourism and fishery.
The island was discovered by Jacques Cartier in 1534 and the aboriginals called the island Epekwitk meaning resting on the waves. It was later renamed as Prince Edward in honor of Edward, Duke of Kent. The province joined confederation in 1873.
