Previously known as the Medicine Hat Junior College, and established in 1964, the college now proudly introduces more than 14,300 students. It is not only a comprehensive community college but it also has extended education to south-eastern Alberta and south western Saskatchewan. Now it has two campuses one in Alberta and the other in Brooks. The courses range from degree and diploma programs to some of the useful apprenticeship programs which are meant to help the students in their future.

Some of the courses offered are:

• 10 Bachelor Degree options
• Degrees in eco-tourism and Outdoor Leadership
• Collaborative degrees in nursing and social work with University of Calgary
• Criminal Justice
• Joint degrees in Communication
• Management with Athabasca University

Along with these this community college also has ESL (English as Second Language Program) with low fees and for the betterment of English. The fee structure varies for the in-house and the international students. However the students are helped with personal and academic counseling, homestay placement where they can stay with any Canadian family. The Vera Bracken Library is an all-round help for the students with CD ROM databases. Co-curricular activities are encouraged among the students.
