A Collegiate athletic conference, the West Coast Conference
consists of eight members in Oregon, Washington and California. The West Coast Conference was founded as the California Basketball Association in the year 1952 and it adopted its present name in the year 1989. A remarkably stable union of College athletics, the West Coast Conference neither lost nor gained a member since the year 1980.
One of the best mid- major conferences, the West Coast Conference participates in the NCAA Division I. Besides, the West Coast Conference also sponsors thirteen different sports. Historically, Soccer has been a stronghold of the West Coast Conferences with victory in a number of National Championships.
The West Coast Conference has also been prominent in tennis and men's basketball. However, football is not one of the usual favorites of the West Coast Conference and it is only San Diego is the only member of the Conference that still plays football.
