A Video Conference session,by definition, means a set of telecommunication technologies that permits the interaction of multiple locations simultaneously through interactive video and audio transmission. A type of group ware, Video Conference differers from a Videophone in the sense that it allows multiple to interact rather than individuals. Besides the audio visual interactions, Video Conference is used to share documents, and computer-displayed information. However, certain components are required for a Video Conference,these include:
- Data transfer: An analog or digital telephone network, LAN or Internet
- Video input :Either a video camera or a web cam
- Video output:A computer monitor , a television or a projector
- Audio input: Some kind of a microphone
- Audio output: A loudspeaker associated with the display device or telephone
There are mainly two kinds of Video Conference systems:
The Dedicated System:
This system has an equipment which includes all the required components packed into it. This is usually a console with a high quality video camera with a remote control. These PTZ cameras can be controlled from a distance.
The Desktop System:
This system has add ons to the normal personal computer which transforms the PC into a Video Conference device. Different kinds of microphones can be used with this system.
