Silicon Graphics
Silicon Graphics is one of the Top Computer Manufacturing Companies which manufactures computer hardware and software and provides consumers with high-performance computing solutions. Silicon Graphics was established by Jim Clark and Abbey Silverstone in 1982.
Silicon Graphics initially produced 3D graphics display terminals which was a joint effort of Clark and Marc Hannah at Stanford. SGI has it’s headquarter based at Sunnyvale in California. During the year 1981, SGI was integrated as a California corporation in November 1981, which was ultimately converted to Delaware Corporation in January 1990.
The first generation product produced by SGI is IRIS 1000 (Integrated Raster Imaging System). It is a high-performance machine, which runs on Motorola 68000 microprocessor with a Sun-1 motherboard.

After the IRIS 4D series was introduced by SGI, the company concentrated on the development of MIPS RISC microprocessor. These were more powerful machines with more memory and on-board math technology. These machines were used for making 3D graphics which became accepted on television and film.

SGI has acquired immense eminence and recognition while creating MIPS-based workstations and servers in the year 1990s. Of late, Silicon Graphics Inc. changed its logo to SGI, which has been a proprietary typeface designed and branded by a consulting firm named Landor Associates, in partnership with designer Joe Stitzlein. The cube logo was adopted by the company and is still in use.
