Compaq Computer Corporation popularly known as Compaq is an American based personal computer company. Compaq laid its foundation way back in 1982 and is a branded tag of Hewlett-Packard.

Compaq is one of the Top Computer Manufacturing Companies which was initially founded by Rod Canion, Jim Harris and Bill Murto in February 1982. They were previously working as senior managers for Texas instruments. The name "COMPAQ� is synonymous to terms like Compatibility and Quality. Compaq was the name that one can recall as far as the production of first IBM PC compatible computers is concerned.

Compaq is the largest dealer and supplier of computing systems in the world. Compaq was an independent corporation and entity when it related to computers. It was in 2002, when the company got merged with Hewlett-Packard.

The company of Compaq PC originated when its founders dined in a local Houston restaurant of House of Pies. The initial venture capital was done by Ben Rosen and Sevin-Rosen partners. Compaq is famed to provide its customers with Presario notebooks, laptops, computer accessories, desktops and monitors.

Today HP Compaq competes on equal grounds with other manufacturing companies like Dell, Gateway, Sony, IBM, Lenovo, and Toshiba.It was in November 1982, Compaq launched their first product known as Compaq Portable, which is a handy IBM PC personal computer.

Compaq even designed a Notepad laptop, which could be used with wireless mouse and an interactive pen.

Presently there are two sports stadium which is named after the company. The Compaq Center of Houston in Texas is one among them which was later on named as the Summit. Secondly the San Jose Compaq Pavilion of San Jose in California, which was converted to HP Pavilion.
