MIT Laboratory for Computer Science

The MIT Laboratory for Computer Science one of the world famous Computer Science research Institutes, which had begun its journey as Project MAC. This research institute deals with both the computational models as well as artificial intelligence. It is also known as the MIT CSAIL, which stands for Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.

Origin of MIT Laboratory for Computer Science

The MIT Laboratory for Computer Science started as the Project MAC in MIT in the 1st of July 1963. Fano, Fernando J. Corbato, and Marvin Minsky were the founder members of the project and it was started with a granting of 2 million dollars. Its aim was to create a utility of computer, which can be developed as a trustworthy source of computational process. The Project MAC was rechristened considering the success of the project and also the step it took to make more breakthrough innovations. This includes the development of one of the most important tools of modern lives, the internet.
The CSAIL department was included in the MIT Laboratory for Computer Science in the year 2003 on the 1st of July.

Research works by the MIT Laboratory for Computer Science

The Research areas in Computer Science, which are being dealt by the MIT Laboratory for Computer Science, are mainly the computational problems and systems and the artificial intelligence. Some of the famous alumni of this research institute include Bob Metcalfe and Bob Frankston. Both of were involved in the invention of Ethernet and VisiCalc respectively, which only added to the starry institution.
