The INRIA located in Paris is one of the pioneers among the Computer Science research Institutes in Europe, which deals with Research areas in Computer Science like network infrastructure development and much more. The aim of the institution is to be one of the most important global contributors in the research and development in computer science.
The French National Institute in Computer Science and Research or the INRIA, is controlled by both the Ministry of Research and Ministry of Industry of France. There are six research units situated in Rocquencourt, Rennes, Sophia Antipolis, Grenoble, Nancy and Bordeaux-Lille-Saclay. All these units are working together to attain result from 138 research projects.
Origin of INRIA
Origin of INRIA and its subsequent development took place between the years 1967 to 1972. Even though it began its journey as the IRIA, it was later renamed as INRIA. This renaming was also a long process, which took the institution eight years to travel, 1972 to 1980. The growth process would be left incomplete if there is no expansion and so the INRIA stepped towards expansion after the year 1980 with a number of research units being opened in the years to follow.
Aim of INRIA
The Aim of INRIA is to achieve the following:
- To design and master the future network infrastructures and communication services platforms
- To develop multimedia data and multimedia information processing
- To guarantee the reliability and security of software- intensive systems
- To combine models and data to simulate and control complex systems
- The combination of simulation, visualization and interaction for better communication
- To model living structures and mechanisms
- Integrating ICST into medical technology in totality
