Overview of Fictional Operating system

Fictional operating system is specially designed for the computer systems dealing with fictions. Just like any other operating system, fictional operating system serves as a link between the software and hardware packages driving the system of computers used in fiction.

Types of Fictional Operating System

Copland OS, ALTIMIT OS, DROS, HAL9000, HeliacOS, Hyper OS, LCARS, Barbie OS, Jesux, Finux are some of the commonly used fictional operating systems. Microsoft Linux, Yellow Hat GNU/Linux, Lesbian GNU/Linux are some other popular fictional operating systems. Shadowrun, the famous inter-genre character-playing game, used some of the cutting-edge fictional operating systems like Redcap Nix, Vector Xim, Renraku Ichi, etc.



Functions of Fictional Operating System

  • ALTIMIT operating system comes with a highly stable fictional operating system, which offers a protective shield against all types of computer viruses. Launched by Altimit Corporation, the ALTIMIT OS is extensively used in hack series.
  • Digitronix Resident Operating System, popularly known as DROS, is the functional operating system used in the hacker or mail section of all computer systems. DROS represents file blocks as a series of blocks bundled together to give a rectangular shape.

  • HAL 9000 comes with a Space Odyssey set of programs. The iconic camera eye of HAL was figured in the Discovery spaceship.
  • LCARS or the Library Computer Access and Retrieval System is a fictional operating system that was visualized in The Next Generation. LCARS was introduced in the Star Trek series to generate a more lively onscreen effect. LCARS was developed to lower the production cost of complicated displays.
