It was available with either a 4 cylinder engine or a 6 cylinder engine. In its first couple years of production the Tacoma made very good business. In 2001 Tacoma was given a facelift which included a new grill, headlights, and taillights. In 2005 a new 4.0 liter V6 took the place of the original 3.4 liter V6.
