A cross between station wagons and full size vans, Multi Purpose Vehicle or MPV is a four to nine seater van and is generally made for personal use. Known as Minivans in the US, these vehicles are made for maximum interior
space, more seating capacity or cargo room. Launched by both Toyota and Chrysler in the mid 1980s, the first MPVs were introduced in the western world which has since become one of the major segments of the automobile industry at present.
MPVs can be classified into three segments:
- Large MPVs - above 4600 mm
- Medium MPVs - between 4200 mm and 4600 mm
- Small MPVs - under 4100 mm
- Leisure Activity Vehicle - under 4000 mm
