The Roadsters are one type of cars that will suit the budget of the customers. Very rarely there is a car which fulfills two criteria successfully. The cars can be also designed according to the preferences of the customers. Roadster is the term commonly used to designate a 2-seater with a temporary hood. The term came into use in North America. There are other ways to recognize a Roadster. It does not have permanent rollup windows and the windshield is bolt on and not integrated. The features are common in a convertible also, which had roll-up side windows in the 1920’s and the 1930’s. These days the term is also used for lightweight sports car. Hot Rod Roadsters:
The term came in vogue after the World War II. When an old car has been successfully modified and turned into a new model with the reduction in the weight of the car, it can be called Hot Rod Roadsters. The change in the appearance makes the car more desirable. The changes can be done in different parts of the car like wheels and tires, engines or even the exterior of the car can be revamped to suit the needs of the passengers. The old models were given a new leash of life with paints and the dash of color would make it saleable in the market. Although, “hot roadster” was initially used to designate cars which were not allowed entry into the mainstream automobile industry, the term became popular in the 1950’s. Wally Parks, one of the most important “Street Rodders” was introduced during this time. Articles were written about this specimen and there is a large circulation of magazines like Hot Rod Magazine, Street Rodder and Popular Hot Rodding. In other words Hot Rods became a significant part of the American culture. The Hot Rod culture speaks of an era where cars were remodeled and given new looks. Clubs and societies still patronize this culture. The culture with regular organization of races, in the name of roadsters is still very much a part of the American life.
Modern Roadsters:
1990 saw a major change in the genre of roadster. With the launch of Mazda Miata and MX-5 the term roadsters regained popularity. The term has now become synonymous with convertible sports car which gives stress on driving. There are various terms that are used to designate this special genre. Some like to call them Spyder, while others like the Italians have an affinity for the term Barchetta.
