History
Started as Suzuki Loom Company in 1909 by Michio Suzuki in a small village, Suzuki expanded their business in building small cars in the year 1937. The initial cars were provided with liquid-cooled, four-stroke, four-cylinder engine very original at that point of time. Production of Suzuki vehicles crippled with the onset of World War II but resumed again after the war. Huge demand for inexpensive personal transportation in Japan resulted in Suzuki's first two-wheel motorized bicycle called, the "Power Free." It had a 36cc two-stroke engine with double-sprocket gear system allowing the rider to pedal with or without engine or simply run on engine power by removing the pedal. The new democratic government promptly granted Suzuki a financial subsidy allowing them research in motorcycle engineering. This resulted in the formation of Suzuki Motor Corporation in 1954.
