With the enthusiasm of the Soviet government, The Ministry of Foregn Trade and FIAT (Turin, Italy), in July 1966, AutoVAZ was initiated with the trademark of Lada, a Ressian Car Manufacturing company based in Togliatti region.
It is the biggest manufacturers of the car industry, running under the chairmanship of Vladimir Kadannikov till 2005 and later overtaken by a group of managers from state-owned arms export company called the Rosoboronexport. It is also the first local partners of the renowned General Motors.
