Lada Russia

With the enthusiasm of the Soviet government, The Ministry of Foregn Trade and FIAT (Turin, Italy), in July 1966, AutoVAZ was initiated with the trademark of Lada, a Ressian Car Manufacturing company based in Togliatti region.

It is the biggest manufacturers of the car industry, running under the chairmanship of Vladimir Kadannikov till 2005 and later overtaken by a group of managers from state-owned arms export company called the Rosoboronexport. It is also the first local partners of the renowned General Motors.

The Assembly plants are sited at different parts of the Russia, namely:

Asia (Kazakhstan) Kremenchug Car Plant (Ukraine) Lada (Egypt) LuAZ (Ukraine) ZAZ (Ukraine)

With a oldest plant at Togliatti occupying 600 ha (cca 1500 acres) land, with a total length of conveyer systems stretching over 300 km. Presently, it produces about 750000 vehicles per year with an anticipated figure of 220,000 units by 2007. In September 2002, it launched the first local Chevrolet Niva, jointly with the General Motors.
