Founded by Walter P Chrysler, in the year 1925, Chrysler began as an independent manufacturer of automobiles. Then known as Chrysler Corporation, the complete name of Chrysler today is DaimlerChrysler Motors Company LLC. An American concern, Chrysler is often also termed as Mopar, a branch of the DaimlerChrysler Motors Company LLC that engages and specializes in the manufacture of automobile parts and other automobile gadgets.
Once a failing company called Maxwell Motor Company, Walter P Chrysler did an overhaul to it. Thus it was converted into a concern that now stands as one of the world's most renowned automobile manufacturer.
The first Chrysler car to be launched was the “Chrysler automobile”. It was released in the year 1924 and became an instantaneous hit. Chrysler later launched many more brands under its own label. One of the most popular of them was the Plymouth brand, which was targeted at the lower price end. Then it was the turn of the medium priced DeSoto brand. The other brands were Dodge, Chrysler and Imperial.
The first Chrysler car that came with a high style quotient was the Chrysler Airflow. With an aerodynamic and streamlined body, it experienced a phenomenal rise in car sale. This trend of style is a continual factor, though Chrysler also had great infrastructure and build up to boast of too.
In 1998, Chrysler became a part of Daimler-Benz, a German company, in a deal termed as the “Merger of Equals”. This merger resulted in the formation of the DaimlerChrysler AG.
