Christian Religious Books include the Holy Bible consisting of The New Testament and the Old Testament and other canonical books of Christianity. The term ‘Christianity' refers to that particular religious belief and practice that was propagated by Jesus Christ, ‘the son of God' and the ‘Savior of Mankind' in Palestine during the rule of Tiberius, the Roman Emperor. After the death of Christ, his followers- ‘the chosen ones' spread his word of love throughout the globe and later Christ's teachings were proclaimed in the form of a world religion. At present Christianity has become the prevalent religion in Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa, America, Oceania, the Philippine Islands, et al.
The origin of Christianity lies in Judaism. Christianity even shares religious books with Judaism. The prominent example is the Hebrew Bible which is known as the Old Testament in Christianity.
Since the times of Jesus, theological treatises, devotional works, pamphlets and letters have been written by authors. The Bible consisting of a compendium of religious books classified under two divisions- the Old Testament and the New Testament were written by mortals under the inspiration of the Divine or the Holy Spirit. It is believed by the Protestants that all truths that are required for salvation are revealed in the scriptures.
The entire Jewish Tanakh is contained in the Bible where as The New Testament consists of four religious books propagating the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John . All these books depict the life and teachings of Christ. Other parts of the New Testament consist of the Acts of the Apostles, a sequel to Luke's Gospel, the General epistles and the epistles of St.Paul, the apocalyptic Book of Revelation and other religious letters.
Some traditions of Christianity maintain other canons. Besides the Bible, the Latter-day Saints consider other three books -
the Book of Mormon ,
the Pearl of Great Price and
the Doctrine and Covenants to be the divine words of God. The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church maintains the Broad Canon that has a large number of books and also the Narrow Canon that is bigger than the Biblical Canon.
