Be it bedtime stories, adventure stories, folk tales, fairy tales, legends or animal stories, Children's Story books with their wide-ranging subjects have always topped the list of fictions. Children's Story Books not only attract large numbers of readers worldwide but also entice numerous authors and writers to write stories for children. Children's stories are written in such a way that both children and adults enjoy reading them. Writers who have acquired fame for writing children's story books and who have popularized the genre of children's story writing include the much-feted British writer – Enid Blyton . Throughout her forty-year old career, about 600 children's books have been published. The most popular of all these books are The Famous Five series, which forms the first full-length adventure series for children. Then followed The Secret Seven , The Mystery series and the Barney Mystery books ; and finally in 1949, the Little Noddy Goes to Toyland stories were published . The Noddy series narrate the stories of a little toy man and this series created a remarkable surge in the sales. There must be very few children in the world who have not read Enid Blyton story books. Another such feted author whose story books have captivated the imagination of children throughout the world is Mark Twain and his works like Tom Sawyer , The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn are among the unparalleled literary creations of the globe!
The world famous work- Der Struwwelpeter (1845) was written by the German writer and physician – Hoffmann. This popular book has been translated into thirty languages and forms an important part of children's literature. Pippi Longstockings , another children's story book by Astrid Lindgren, the Swedish writer has also attracted world-wide attention. The Chronicles of Prydain and the Mabinogion, were two books written by Lloyd Chudley Alexander that inspired the making of the Disney animated film ‘The Black Cauldron'. Lloyd Chudley Alexander wrote over forty juvenile fantasy books. Other famous children's story books such as the Berlioz, The Mitten , Fritz and the Beautiful Horses were written by the American illustrator and author Jan Brett. Master Puppeteer and The Great Gilly Hopkins by the award-winning American author, Katherine Paterson have also been acclaimed worldwide.
The Cat in the Hat , Green Eggs and Ham and so on are among the famous classic children's books written by Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel). The Very Hungry Caterpillar, the world famous work of Eric Carle has won the hearts of millions of children and about 22 million copies of the book in thirty languages have been sold. Roald Dahl wrote ghastly stories for children and the illustrious work- Matilda has been filmed. The list of Children's Story books will always remain incomplete if the legendary Harry Potter fantasy series by J. K. Rowling is not mentioned. About 377 million copies of the Harry Potter series have been sold globally and the books continue to instill undiminished craze among their readers.
