CHILDREN’S BESTSELLERS

Children's Bestsellers are those books which are sold in large number in the markets and have created a huge impact on the children. The stories are extremely well-written and what make them special are the plots. The theme is so gripping that some of them are designated as “unputdownables”. The books generally follow a “Chinese-box Structure” where one story is interwoven with the other story in an intricate pattern. In fact the theme of one story comes out from another story. The story of Harry Potter is skillfully written by J.K. Rowling and there is no indication of his strong legacy in the first few chapters of the first book Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. As the story unfolds we gradually get to know about his parents and Lord Voldermort. The poor orphan suddenly becomes the hero. The series, events or misfortunes that follow create the unmistakable magic of Harry Potter.

The subjects that are dealt with in many of these books are adventures or quests which capture the imagination of the children. The heroes or the protagonists are portrayed in such a way that they show the conflict between the good and the bad in a distinctive manner. Other than this the subjects that are quite popular among the children are stories that have a humane touch. Sensitive issues especially matters of adolescence are something that are frequently touched upon. A book can be considered as a bestseller only when they the books are marketed extremely well. The success of the book lies in its overall sale all through the world. All the books that are considered as best sellers are the ones that generate revenue for the publishers.

Some of the authors who have successfully provided enough resource for the young minds are Enid Blyton, J.K. Rowling, Roald Dahl, and Ruskin Bond. Even writers from various countries have created magic with their words and the characters all seem to come alive when we go through the pages. Some of the authors are recognized posthumously, yet the creations remain eternal. Satyajit Ray is someone who is best remembered for the brilliant creation of Feluda. The adventures are cherished by all. It is perhaps no longer a children's bestseller, because the increasing popularity of the character among the adults is something that one cannot miss.

Some of the most important bestsellers of the world are:

Trip to the North Pole by Ellen Weiss

The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants by Ann Brashares

Chicken Soup for the teenage Soul by Jack Cranfield, Mark Victor Hansen, Kimberley Kirberger and Mitch Claspy

A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket

Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling

The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot

Dick and Jane

The Edge Chronicles by Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell

Magic Tree House by Mary Pope Osborne

The Famous Five and Secret Seven series by Enid Blyton

Dr. Doolittle by Hugh Lofting etc

Although sometimes the characters seem unreal and the situations seem improbable, it is impossible to resist the temptation of accompanying Harry Potter on his broom-stick.
