American History dates back to the time when Italian explorer Christopher Columbus discovered the land in 1492. From that time till now America has witnessed many events and happenings which form a long chronicle of History.
American History can now be divided into the following periods:
- Pre-Colonial America
- Early European settlements
- Spanish exploration and settlement
- French colonization (1655-1803)
- English Colonial America (1493-1776)
- Formation of the United States of America (1776-1789)
- Civil War era (1849–1865)
- Post-World War I and the Great Depression (1918–1940)
- World War II (1940-1945)
- Cold War (1964–1980)
- Present times (1980s till date)
As the list indicates, knowing all about American history can be a tough task if the representation is not made interesting. Especially for children and young people, history should be told in such a way that they find it appealing. That is why Historical Fiction Books are so popular. Although history deals with facts and fiction with creativity, the two when combined results in some very fascinating historical stories.
