Famous Books

A book rises to fame and earns the title of a famous book when it makes the bestselling list or has been defined as a classic. Books in all categories, from children's fairy tales to classic novels, from plays by Shakespeare to the Harry Potter series are included on the list of famous books. Not all famous books are written by well-known authors; the books themselves gain fame for the authors. Once the author becomes famous, the author's other books often quickly become famous as well. Since the start of the twenty-first century, the list of famous books has been determined by the best seller lists published in prominent magazines and newspapers, like the New York Times. Book reviews can also help books gain popularity.

Non-fiction books, like biographies, autobiographies, memoir, cookbooks, and nutrition and diet books have carved out their places on famous book lists more than fictional novels in recent years.

Some of the famous classic books, which are essential for children as they grow and move towards adolescence are Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Canon Doyle, and Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. The Harry Potter series by J.K.Rowling has quickly earned the title of a modern classic, becoming a worldwide sensation for both children and adults. Many comic books like The Adventures of Tintin and Asterix are very famous comic books that have transcended the limits of time and place.

Some of the famous books that any person will cherish for his life are the short stories by O. Henry, short stories by W. Somerset Maugham, or novels by Thomas Hardy. Some authors of the twenty-first century whose books can be included in the list of famous books are John Grisham, J.K. Rowling, Cormac McCarthy, Paolo Coelho, and Phillip Roth.
