- Child fares:
- One infant, less than two years old, may travel for free within the U.S., San Juan, U.S. Virgin Islands and Canada when accompanied by an adult. To book a child for seating on lap, make reservation online for a seat and then call the reservations number to inform the airline that the child will be traveling on lap. Alternatively, children can travel in a seat for 50 per cent of the price of an adult ticket.
- Children five to seven are allowed to travel unaccompanied only on non-stop and direct routes. Kids eight to 12 can travel unaccompanied on all United flights. Children 12 to 17 are allowed to travel as adults, though they travel as unaccompanied minors. Unaccompanied minors can be booked online or via the reservations number, but if booking online, call reservations to confirm all details. There is a fee of $60 for unaccompanied minors.
- Senior fares:
- Available for those over 55 if a member of Silver Wings Plus. The program includes discounts on airfares as well as the chance to earn extra air miles.
- Pet travel:
- Dogs or cats can travel in the cabin, as checked luggage or unaccompanied as cargo. Certain short-nosed breeds of dogs (pugs, Boston terriers, boxers, English / French bulldogs, and King Charles spaniels, Lhasa Apsos, Shar-Peis and Shih Tzus) are only permitted to travel in the cabin and cannot fly as checked luggage or cargo.
