Arik Air in Nigeria came into being when one of the top Nigerian businessmen Sir J.I.A Arumemi- Johnson bought a Hawker Jet aircraft for his personal use. Soon he found out that more and more of his business colleagues were using his liner on their trips to the different parts of Nigeria. He then proceeded to establish the best airline service in the country with the very best of professionals and the best aircraft in the industry. Soon he had a corporate airline business. In 2003 the company was took over the erstwhile Nigeria Airways Limited and an attempt to reconstruct it was undertaken.
