Condor Airlines History

Condor Airlines was incorporated on 21st December 1955 and was named Deutsche Flugdienst GmBH. Its earliest owners were Norddeutscher Lloyd, Deutsche Lufthansa, Hamburg America Line and Deutsche Bundesbahn. It was based at Frankfurt am Main. Its flight operations started on 29th March 1956. Following are some of its most important moments: 1959-Deutsche Lufthansa AG acquires 95.5% ownership 1961-Name changed to Condor Flugdienst GmBH 1966-Earliest long distance flights to Thailand, Kenya, Sri Lanka and Dominican Republic 1971-Becomes first ever airline to operate a Jumbo Boeing 747 1973-Becomes top holiday airline globally 1989-Purchases Sudflug GmbH. Establishes Sunexpress with Turkish Airlines 1991-Condor Comfort Class created 1992-Sudflug is assimilated into Condor. 1995-Increases shareholdings 1996-Becomes first airline to purchase Boeing 757-300 1997-C&N Touristic AG starts owning Condor Flugdienst GmBH 1998-Condor sets up Condor Berlin GmbH 2001-Comfort Class redesigned 2002-Condor becomes Thomas Cook powered by Condor 2004-Condor starts to provide distance on long distance flights
