Ghana International Airlines (GIA) was the national airline of the Republic of Ghana. It started operations in October 2005 but soon went out of business in May 2010.


Ghana International Airlines History

The airline was set up in 2004 as a partnership between the government of Ghana and a group of private international investors. It was owned by the Ghanaian government (70%) and US consortium (GIA-USA) (30%), but the shareholders have been engaged in a protracted legal dispute since 2006. Ghana International Airlines had interline partnerships with numerous international airlines, including Air Baltic, Air Namibia, Continental Airlines, Kenya Airways and South African Airways.

The airline's operations were suspended by the government of Ghana on 13 May 2010.

Ghana International Airlines Services

Ghana International Airlines was a short-lived airline with its base at Accra, Ghana. It served the following destinations: Dusseldorf, Accra, Johannesburg and London. At the time that the airline suspended operations the fleet included a single Boeing 757-200. The airline had 168 employees (till March 2008).
