Air Tahiti Nui was established in 1996 but the flight operations began a couple of years later in 1998. It links the Southern Pacific with four other continents and is the major airliner to French Polynesia. The Air Tahiti Nui hub is at the Faa'a International Airport on the Tahiti Island and has its headquarters at Papeete. Majority of the shares of Air Tahiti Nui are held by the Government of French Polynesia along with some by Tahiti private investors.
