British Midlands Airlines Cargo, also known by the name of BMI, was established in the year 1938 and was named as Air Schools Ltd. Having provided training to the RAF pilots for quite some time, the school diversified its services to provide scheduled chartered flights to passengers and ferrying cargoes. The company was hence renamed as the Derby Aviation in the year 1949.
The year 1970, saw a change of course in the history of British Midlands Airlines Cargo. The airlines started providing long distance flights for the first time in the year. Having proved to be of excellent service, the British Midlands Airlines Cargo won the Export Achievement award, sponsored by the Queens achievement. Further is the year 2000, the British Midlands Airlines won the 'air cargo of the year' award, organized by the International Freighting Weekly magazine. It was also nominated for the best customer care award in the same year. Since then the British Midlands Airlines never looked back.
